Pomeroy's Update June—August 2010

Descartes walks into a bar and the barman says “Would you like a beer?” Descartes replies “I think not” and POOF he disappears. Laughter is the best medicine and a powerful antidote to stress, pain, grief and conflict. When laughter is shared it binds people together, boosts energy and mood, diminishes pain and has a beneficial effect on hearts and arteries. Lord love a duck! You see, Pomeroy’s had your wellbeing in mind when we brought you the very blinkin’ successful ‘Laugh Inn’ comedy series. What a couple of rollicking nights they were—enough to keep you feeling chipper til the spring when they’ll kick off again.

A big thanks to Andi, once again, as she mistressfully steered the good ship Pomeroy’s while Steve & Keeley travelled to Canada and Ava was fully immersed in her Make-up Artistry course (working hard and really enjoying herself). Steve’s trip to Canada was to attend a reunion of his old rugby team ‘The Clansmen’ (Steve played 1976—1983), which they celebrated with a golf tournament and “a meeting of great minds”. Daughter Aidan also participated and together they explored Victoria (oh dear, the capital city of British Columbia—not Steve’s capital wife!). Sadly, while Aidan and Keeley toured on through Banff and Jasper National Parks, Steve’s trip was cut short by the need for him to attend his mother’s bedside.

Despite stormy weather, Pomeroy’s steers a safe and cosy course, boasting lively new bar staff with smiling faces and all the right moves. It’s time for a new menu with Chef Eiji bringing you traditional, delicious, rib-sticking fare but also with a hint of Asian influence, some fresh flavours and a range of good value dishes to suit everyone. Although winter is without a ‘Laugh Inn’, the next special event to look forward to is a delightful evening with Hera, singer songwriter extraordinaire, and, due to the riotous popularity of the Emerson’s & Epic beer tastings, we have a couple more lined up for you that don’t start with ‘E’. Keep a weather eye out for details of the Storming of Beervana—an overnight trip to Wellington in August and the chance to taste up to 170 craft beers and meet the brewers.

Meanwhile check out Pom’s beer taps. We drank the Oyster Stout pump dry and started on the Kaimai Golden Rye—mmmmm! Laughter is intoxicating but it’s not the only thing. Come on down and take your medicine. Cheers!
